The Federal Government on Tuesday officially inaugurated the new Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), charging members to drive transformational reforms in the aviation sector.
The ceremony, held at the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development headquarters in Abuja, was presided over by the Minister, Festus Keyamo, SAN, who described the inauguration as a crucial step in repositioning Nigeria’s aviation industry for global competitiveness and operational excellence.
Keyamo reminded the Board of FAAN’s statutory mandate under the 1996 Act, stressing that their roles go beyond ceremonial duties.
“The success of FAAN is not measured merely by financial growth but by its impact on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. Our airports must become symbols of national pride,” he said.
He outlined priority areas for the Board, including:

Strengthening safety and security across all airports,

Promoting sustainability in aviation operations,

Improving passenger experience and service quality, and
-
Forging strategic local and international partnerships.
Keyamo expressed confidence in the Board’s diverse expertise and urged members to uphold diligence, integrity, and a sense of national duty.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, welcomed the new members and commended the selection committee for choosing individuals of high caliber.
FAAN Managing Director/CEO, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, in her vote of thanks, pledged the Board’s commitment to institutional reforms aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We will prioritize institutional governance and ensure that Nigerians and visitors experience visible improvements at our airports,” she said.
Board Chairman, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, CON, speaking on behalf of the members, pledged strict adherence to the FAAN Act and reaffirmed their commitment to high service standards.
“We will not exhibit mediocrity by neglecting our statutory duties. Our operations must align with international benchmarks,” Ganduje stated.
