The office of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has issued a strong warning to the public regarding a fraudulent Instagram account falsely claiming to represent him.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, the former President drew attention to the fake profile operating under the handle goodluck_ebelejonathan. The account, according to the statement, has been actively posting deceptive content, some of which is copied directly from Dr. Jonathan’s verified Facebook page, in a bid to mislead followers and create the impression of authenticity.
Mr. Eze stressed that Dr. Jonathan does not maintain any Instagram presence and described the activities of the impostor as a deliberate act of misrepresentation capable of misleading unsuspecting members of the public.
“The public and the media are hereby advised to disregard the account, refrain from engaging with its content, and avoid sharing or amplifying any of its posts,” the statement read.
He further urged social media users to rely solely on Dr. Jonathan’s verified communication channels for accurate updates and to report any suspicious accounts impersonating public figures to the relevant authorities.
This development comes amid increasing concerns over the use of fake social media profiles to spread misinformation, defraud unsuspecting users, and damage reputations.
