EFCC returns N100m recovered royalties to solid minerals ministry in Uyo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday, August 15, 2025, handed over a bank draft of ₦100 million to the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, representing royalties recovered from defaulting mining companies in Akwa Ibom State.

The presentation was made by the Uyo Zonal Director of the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Oshodi Johnson, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, during a brief ceremony at the Commission’s zonal office in Uyo.

Oshodi emphasised the EFCC’s commitment to transparency and accountability in asset recovery, noting that such measures are vital to building public trust. He called for stronger collaboration between the EFCC and federal ministries, particularly in intelligence sharing, to boost recovery efforts.

“This ₦100 million is just a tip of the iceberg. We will continue to recover every kobo belonging to the government,” Oshodi said, adding that further recoveries are expected in the solid minerals sector and beyond.

Receiving the draft, Federal Mines Officer for Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Emmanuel Effiong Bassey, praised the EFCC’s swift response to a petition that led to the recovery. He described the solid minerals sector as critical to Nigeria’s economic stability and urged deeper cooperation between both agencies.

The EFCC commended the ministry for providing actionable intelligence that facilitated the recovery and reaffirmed its readiness to sustain inter-agency collaboration to track and recover public funds.
