NEMA deploys rescue team after Sokoto boat mishap

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed its Sokoto Operations Office (SOO) response team to support rescue efforts following a boat accident in Sokoto State.

The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, ordered the intervention after receiving reports that a boat carrying over 50 passengers to Goronyo Market capsized earlier today.

As of the time of this report, about 10 passengers have been rescued, while more than 40 remain missing.

NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office, working with local authorities and other emergency responders, has intensified search and rescue operations to locate the missing persons.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives, providing timely updates, and supporting affected families throughout the incident.
