Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated N100 million to the Nigerian Army University, Biu (NAUB), to boost research and infrastructural development.
The governor made the announcement while receiving the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawan Bala Buratai, and principal officers of the institution at the Government House, Maiduguri.
Zulum praised ongoing efforts to establish a legislative framework for NAUB, describing it as critical for the university’s long-term sustainability. He also directed the state’s Ministry of Education to develop a scholarship scheme for indigent students from all 27 local government areas to study at the institution.
The governor further pledged support for the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at NAUB to address the shortage of doctors and frontline health workers in the state. He emphasized the need for Borno’s three federal universities—the University of Maiduguri, NAUB, and the Federal University of Agriculture and Entrepreneurship, Bama—to align their academic programmes with the state’s developmental needs.
In response, Vice Chancellor Buratai commended the governor’s consistent support and appealed for additional sponsorship of Borno indigenes, particularly in Engineering and technical disciplines.
Separately, while hosting the leadership of the Biu Forum, Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable distribution of projects across the state. He highlighted increased investments in security, education, and infrastructure, noting that his government’s efforts were guided by the long-term welfare of residents.
The Forum’s National Chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed, lauded the governor for executing more than 90 development projects in Biu Emirate, including a new Eye and Dental Hospital, LGA Secretariat, road networks, mega schools, a vocational training centre, healthcare facilities, and housing estates.
