President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returned to Abuja on Thursday after official visits to Japan and Brazil, where he held high-level engagements to strengthen bilateral relations.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said the presidential jet departed Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at 12:57 p.m. local time, with top Brazilian officials, including Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, on hand to bid farewell.
He said Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior officials also joined the brief departure ceremony, which featured a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.
President Tinubu arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, and was received with full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto. During his visit, he met with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and senior Brazilian officials. Both leaders witnessed the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding in aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture—priority areas in Nigeria’s development agenda.
