IGP Egbetokun hails Late Arase as ‘Institution in Himself’

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has described the late Inspector-General of Police and former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, CFR, as “an institution in himself, a rare blend of intellect, discipline, and humanity.”

According Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Egbetokun gave the tribute on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, during the Day of Tributes in Celebration of the Life and Times of Late IGP Solomon Ehigiator Arase (Rtd), organised to honour the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police.

Reflecting on Arase’s career, which began when he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet ASP in 1981, Egbetokun said his rise through the ranks exemplified resilience, excellence, and duty. “He moved with quiet confidence, driven not by ambition but by a genuine desire to leave the organisation better than he met it,” the IGP said. Arase eventually became the nation’s 18th indigenous IGP in 2015.

The event drew eminent dignitaries including Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa; former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole; former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Obong Victor Attah; former Edo Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; and several former Inspectors-General of Police.

They joined colleagues, friends, and well-wishers in paying glowing tributes to Arase, whose life and service were hailed as a remarkable legacy to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.
