Tinubu to Service Chiefs: No more excuses, defeat terrorists and bandits now

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a firm directive to Nigeria’s newly appointed Service Chiefs, charging them to intensify operations against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening national security.

According to Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, the President stated this at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, after decorating the Service Chiefs with their new ranks, President Tinubu declared that Nigerians are no longer interested in excuses but in tangible results.

“We cannot allow the crisis that began in 2009 to persist any longer,” the President said. “Nigerians expect results, not excuses. I charge you to carry out your duties with patriotic zeal. Be innovative, pre-emptive, and courageous. Stay ahead of those who threaten our peace and deploy technology where necessary.”

The ceremony, held at the Council Chambers, was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima; Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his deputy, Senator Barau Jibrin; Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu; as well as several state governors and top government officials.

President Tinubu expressed concern over the emergence of new armed groups in parts of the North-Central, North-West, and South, warning the military to respond swiftly and decisively.

“Security threats are constantly evolving. Of grave concern is the emergence of new armed groups. We must not allow these threats to fester. Smash the new snakes right at the head,” he charged.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare and operational needs of the armed forces, Tinubu commended their sacrifices and assured them of continued government support.

“Over the years, our military has defended our territorial integrity with courage, and many have paid the supreme price. Their sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said. “We have reclaimed large areas once under siege and weakened terror groups significantly. But we must finish the job.”

The President urged the Service Chiefs to work in unity and strengthen coordination across security agencies.

“Work as a team. Exchange information, follow up proactively, and ensure a seamless process. Collaborate with other security agencies and defeat the enemy once and for all. I will provide all the support you need,” he assured.

Responding on behalf of the Service Chiefs, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, expressed gratitude to the President for his confidence in their leadership and pledged total commitment to securing the nation.

“Security should be our business, but without public support, we can achieve little,” Oluyede said. “We urge Nigerians of all ethnicities to support us. Together, we will make Nigeria safer.”

Those decorated at the ceremony include General Olufemi Oluyede (Chief of Defence Staff); Lieutenant General Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye (Chief of Defence Intelligence); Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu (Chief of Army Staff); Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Chief of Naval Staff); and Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke (Chief of Air Staff).

The Service Chiefs, accompanied by their spouses, drew applause when they saluted their wives after saluting the Commander-in-Chief.
