PEBEC applauds FRSC for clearing driver’s licence backlog Nationwide

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has praised the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for significantly improving the issuance of driver’s licences across the country and clearing the longstanding backlog.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, PEBEC Director General, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, acknowledged the swift and comprehensive steps taken by the FRSC following concerns raised over delays in licence production.

According to her, after PEBEC’s formal notification on 7 November 2025, the FRSC carried out an internal assessment that identified the root causes of the production delays. The Corps subsequently restored full system functionality and strengthened monitoring mechanisms to prevent future disruptions.

PEBEC highlighted the FRSC’s achievement in clearing all accumulated backlogs and boosting daily production capacity to 15,000 licences—describing it as a major milestone in enhancing public service efficiency. It also commended the introduction of the Contactless Biometric Capture System, designed to enable the issuance of permanent driver’s licences within 48 hours and eliminate the reliance on temporary licences.

The Council urged applicants whose licences have been processed to visit FRSC centres to collect them, noting that over 294,000 unclaimed licences remain across the country. Prompt collection, it added, would ease congestion at service centres and support the Corps’ drive to improve turnaround time and operational effectiveness.

Reaffirming its commitment to regulatory efficiency and improved citizen experience, PEBEC said it will continue to collaborate with Ministries, Departments and Agencies to promote seamless and business-friendly service delivery nationwide.
