GOC 6 Division pledges stronger ties with NAVTRAC

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to deepen cooperation with the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC). He gave the assurance on Wednesday during a familiarisation visit by the newly appointed Flag Officer Commanding NAVTRAC, Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Abraham Zipele, at the Division’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.

In a statement, Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieut. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma said Major General Emekah said the Division remained committed to strengthening joint efforts aimed at sustaining peace and security in Rivers State and across the Niger Delta region. Describing the Nigerian Navy as a “second home,” he emphasised his long-standing relationship with the service and urged the new FOC to maintain the synergy between both institutions.

Rear Admiral Zipele explained that his visit followed established military tradition, which requires a new commander to visit neighbouring formations to formally introduce himself and explore areas of cooperation. He highlighted the importance of enhanced joint training between the Army and Navy, noting that effective collaboration is crucial in tackling evolving security challenges.

He stressed that all components of the Armed Forces of Nigeria work toward a unified national objective and must therefore sustain and improve their partnership. Citing the maxim, “We train more in peacetime so as to bleed less in wartime,” the FOC called for renewed focus on training and operational readiness.

Rear Admiral Zipele assured the GOC of NAVTRAC’s commitment to strengthening functional collaboration with 6 Division in the interest of national security.
