Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Thursday attended the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mafa Local Government Area, as party members elected new ward executives across the state.
The exercise, conducted simultaneously in all 312 wards of Borno State, was held by consensus to promote unity and internal cohesion within the party. The process in Mafa Ward was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Zulum, who was accompanied by APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, Hon. Mohammed Jaha (Babawo), and the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, expressed satisfaction with the orderly conduct of the congress.
Other members of the governor’s entourage included APC State Chairman Bello Ayuba and Senator Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai, alongside senior party executives.
The ward congress committee in Mafa was chaired by the Borno State Commissioner for Health, Professor Baba Mallam Gana, while the Mafa Local Government Electoral Officer of INEC, Salihu Muktari, oversaw the monitoring of the exercise.
Addressing party members at the conclusion of the congress, Zulum commended the peaceful atmosphere and lauded the APC national leadership for deploying what he described as a competent team to supervise the process.
“I am pleased with the smooth conduct of this exercise. There was no rancour or bitterness, which reflects the spirit of unity within the APC family,” the governor said, urging the newly elected executives to view their emergence as a call to service.
He emphasized the strategic importance of ward executives in strengthening the party’s grassroots structure, noting that their role would be pivotal in fostering unity and advancing the party’s objectives.
Members of the APC Ward and Local Government Congresses Screening Committees, Screening Appeals Committees, as well as Ward/LGA Congresses and Appeals Committees—led by Prophet Jones Erue—were also present in Mafa to observe the proceedings.
