The Chief of the Naval Staff, Idi Abbas, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s readiness to collaborate with relevant organisations to strengthen indigenous shipbuilding capacity and enhance operational effectiveness.
According to Director of Naval Information Nigerian Navy Captain, AA Folorunsho, he made the statement during a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja by the Managing Director of ASELSAN Nigeria Limited, Amadou Ndongo Thiam.
According to the Navy, the engagement aligns with its strategic objective of promoting local content development, technology transfer, and sustainable capability growth within Nigeria’s maritime defence sector.

During the visit, the ASELSAN delegation expressed its readiness to establish a long-term partnership with the Nigerian Navy, focusing on joint ventures, collaboration with indigenous shipyards, and the integration of advanced defence technologies.
The company outlined its expertise in unmanned systems, infrared search and track systems, integrated combat solutions, and the modernisation of naval platforms. The delegation also visited the Naval Dockyard Limited, where it observed ongoing construction of Seaward Defence Boats, highlighting potential areas of synergy with Nigeria’s expanding indigenous shipbuilding efforts.
The Chief of the Naval Staff described the engagement as timely and strategic, stressing that the Nigerian Navy remains committed to partnerships that deliver meaningful technology transfer and strengthen the country’s defence industrial base.
He further emphasised the importance of structured collaborations, particularly through government-to-government frameworks, to ensure transparency, efficiency, and alignment with national security priorities while enhancing maritime security operations.
The Navy noted that such partnerships are critical to advancing self-reliance and boosting Nigeria’s naval capabilities in line with global best practices.
