Troops of Sector 2, Operation FASAN YAMMA, have recorded significant operational successes against bandits and terrorists in Zamfara State, neutralising a suspected terrorist, rescuing three kidnapped victims, and recovering arms and other items during clearance operations across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas.
The military disclosed that the achievements were recorded as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace and security in communities affected by banditry in the state.
According to operational reports, troops on fighting patrol on June 12, 2026, covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi Local Government Area, made contact with a group of terrorists operating within the Yanbuki District.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which the troops overpowered the terrorists, neutralising one of the insurgents while forcing others to flee into nearby forests.
Items recovered from the scene included rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest believed to have been used by members of the criminal group.
Military sources said the troops maintained pressure on the fleeing terrorists and advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, a location identified as a known terrorist stronghold.
On sighting the advancing troops and recognising their superior firepower, the terrorists reportedly abandoned their camp and fled before the arrival of security forces.
The troops subsequently conducted a thorough clearance operation, destroying the enclave and denying the terrorists the opportunity to regroup or continue using the location as a base for criminal activities.
The operation also led to the rescue of three kidnapped victims who were safely recovered during the course of the mission.
Security authorities described the operation as part of sustained offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist camps, disrupting logistics networks and restoring normalcy across Zamfara and other states in the North-West region.
They reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FASAN YAMMA to intensifying operations against criminal elements and ensuring the protection of lives and property in affected communities.
