Former President of the Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah and 17 soldiers in recent attacks in Borno State, describing the incident as a national tragedy.
In a statement, Saraki said he was pained by reports of the attacks in Benisheikh, Ngamdu, and Pulka, noting that the loss of General Braimah—a highly regarded officer with academic credentials from King’s College London and the National Defence University in Islamabad—represented a significant blow to the Nigerian Army’s leadership.
He described the late general as a “soldier-scholar” who embodied the intellectual and strategic strength of the military, adding that his death, alongside his men, would be felt beyond the 29 Task Force Brigade.
Saraki observed a troubling pattern in recent months, with senior military commanders increasingly targeted in frontline operations. While commending troops for their bravery, he warned that courage alone was insufficient, calling for an urgent, intelligence-driven reassessment of military strategy.
He extended condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers, as well as to Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and residents of the state, urging the nation to honour the sacrifices of its armed forces.
