President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the exit of two ministers and the appointment of new officials to key portfolios.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, have been directed to step down from the cabinet.
Mr. Taiwo Oyedele has been elevated to replace Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
In the housing sector, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, pending formal processes. Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the Minister of State in the interim.
The SGF directed that all handover processes be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.
Akume said the changes are intended to “strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance” and enhance the delivery of economic priorities under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate the cabinet would remain ongoing.
