The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with key partners, has received 143 Nigerian migrant returnees from Agadez, Niger Republic, at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State.
The returnees arrived on April 22, 2026, aboard a Sky Mali Airline flight, touching down at approximately 1:11 p.m. local time. Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted initial documentation at the airport.
Subsequently, the returnees were transported to the Nigeria Immigration Service Training School, where a comprehensive profiling exercise was carried out on April 23 by relevant stakeholders.
The group comprised 118 adult males, nine adult females, eight male children and eight female children, bringing the total number of returnees to 143.
The reception exercise involved multiple agencies and humanitarian organisations, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as Alkhairi Orphanage and Women Development.
Officials said the operation was conducted in a coordinated and orderly manner, underscoring effective inter-agency collaboration. The process ensured seamless reception, proper documentation, and the provision of essential humanitarian assistance and support services to the returnees.
