Federal Fire Service expands network with new Ekiti fire station

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has taken over a newly constructed Metropolitan Fire Station in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s emergency response capacity and expanding its national safety infrastructure.

The facility, located along New Iyin Road adjacent to the Central Bank of Nigeria, was formally handed over by the contractor, ASHFARD Nigeria Limited, marking a key milestone in the Service’s ongoing modernization programme.

A delegation from the FFS Headquarters in Abuja, led by Engr. Adeniyi Oluwaseyi of the Engineering and Project Services Department, supervised the handover on behalf of the Controller General, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi. The team described the project as a demonstration of the Service’s commitment to enhancing fire safety infrastructure nationwide.

The newly completed station is designed as a modern emergency response hub to address the safety needs of a rapidly growing urban population. Its integration into the national network of fire stations is expected to improve emergency coverage, particularly in metropolitan areas.

Speaking at the event, the Ekiti State Controller of the Service, DCF O.J. Olatunji, conveyed the Controller General’s remarks, describing the project as a landmark achievement in ongoing institutional reforms. He noted that the facility represents a strategic investment in fire prevention and emergency response capacity.

According to the Controller General, the new station will enhance operational readiness, reduce response times, and improve personnel efficiency, while reinforcing the Service’s mandate to safeguard lives and property. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the facility to ensure its long-term effectiveness.

The development was aligned with the broader policy direction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises critical infrastructure development across key sectors. The Controller General further commended Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for reforms that have enhanced the performance and service delivery of the Ministry of Interior and its agencies.

The Federal Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening national safety systems through sustained investment in modern infrastructure and operational capacity.
