NDLEA busts N16.9bn drug syndicate in Lagos, seizes 4.3 million opioids

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have dismantled a major drug trafficking network in Lagos, uncovering three clandestine warehouses stocked with opioids valued at approximately N16.9 billion.

The intelligence-driven operation, conducted on April 17, 2026, targeted properties within Park View Estate in the Ago Palace area of Okota. The affected locations, situated on Olukayode Awofisayo Street and Charles Ndumetu Street, were found to be concealing large quantities of illicit substances.

During the raid, NDLEA officers recovered 2,360,000 pills of high-strength tramadol (225mg) and 1,909,400 bottles of codeine syrup. The narcotics, stored in thousands of cartons, are estimated to have a combined street value of nearly N17 billion.

NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Buba Marwa, described the operation as a significant blow to organised drug trafficking networks, noting that the scale of the seizure reflects both the evolving tactics of criminal syndicates and the agency’s enhanced intelligence capabilities.

He stated that the recovery of nearly 4.3 million units of controlled substances demonstrates the agency’s proactive approach in staying ahead of traffickers, adding that the concealment of such volumes within residential estates underscores the increasing desperation of drug cartels.

Marwa commended the operatives involved for their professionalism and operational efficiency, reiterating the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug networks nationwide.

He warned that no location would serve as a refuge for traffickers, stressing that the NDLEA would continue to target and disrupt illicit supply chains while ensuring offenders face the full extent of the law.

The agency noted that the operation represents a major milestone in its ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse and curb the proliferation of dangerous narcotics across the country.
