Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has outlined the rationale behind endorsing his Commissioner for Works, Mustapha Gubio, as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Zulum publicly presented Gubio with the expression of interest and nomination forms of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja, signaling his support for the commissioner’s candidacy under the ruling party.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, the governor said the endorsement was driven by a desire to sustain the developmental strides recorded under his administration. He recalled his own trajectory in public service, noting how his tenure as Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement helped shape a governance model that delivered measurable improvements to the lives of citizens.
Zulum described Gubio as a disciplined and committed public servant with a proven record of performance, particularly in infrastructure development. He credited the commissioner with overseeing major housing projects across both urban and rural communities, contributing significantly to improved living standards in the state.
The governor further highlighted Gubio’s role in post-insurgency recovery efforts, noting his leadership in rebuilding communities affected by conflict. As Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Gubio was said to have spearheaded the restoration of essential services and public infrastructure in key local government areas, including Bama, Konduga, Damasak and Mafa.
According to the statement, these contributions align with the administration’s broader agenda of recovery, stability and sustainable development, positioning Gubio as a suitable candidate to consolidate ongoing gains.
Zulum maintained that the endorsement reflects a strategic choice anchored on continuity, experience and a commitment to sustaining peace, resilience and transformative governance in Borno State.
