Troops under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted planned attacks in parts of Zamfara and Katsina states, neutralising nine suspected terrorists, including two identified kingpins, in a series of coordinated operations.
In a statement, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations 8 Division, Army / Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA Lieut. Col. Olaniyi Osoba said the operations, conducted between May 1 and 3, also led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, multiple motorcycles and other items, according to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army.
In Katsina State, troops of the Forward Operating Base in Fudma encountered armed groups along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsinma Local Government Area during a fighting patrol. In the ensuing exchange, four suspects were killed, while two AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones and ₦153,000 were recovered.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops operating from the Forward Operating Base in Bagega carried out a major offensive in Anka Local Government Area between May 2 and 3. Security sources said seven militants were neutralised during the engagements, including two alleged kingpins identified as Anaruwa and Gomina.
The operation began on May 2, when troops engaged armed fighters along the Bagega–Anka Road, forcing an initial group to retreat and abandon their motorcycles. The attackers later regrouped and launched a counteroffensive on the Bagega base.
Reinforced by additional combat teams and supported by air strikes from the Nigerian Air Force, troops repelled the assault and engaged a second wave of attackers. Three more militants were killed during the encounter, while additional weapons and seven motorcycles were recovered.
On May 3, troops conducting follow-up operations intercepted two more suspects on motorcycles in the same area, neutralising them on the spot.
Military authorities confirmed that one soldier was killed during the operations.
Troops have since reinforced their presence in Bagega and surrounding areas to prevent further attacks and maintain security dominance.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies.
