IGP approves promotion of 17,952 junior police officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare, boost morale, and reward professionalism and dedication to duty.

According to a statement issued by the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the promotion exercise cuts across commands and formations nationwide. A total of 165 sergeants were elevated to the rank of inspector, 73 corporals were promoted to sergeant, while 17,714 constables advanced to the rank of corporal.

The police chief described timely promotion as a critical aspect of the Force’s human resource management strategy, noting that it remains an important tool for motivating officers to remain committed to the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

He stated that the promotion of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the IGP urged them to view their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline and dedication to service. He also charged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by carrying out their duties with integrity, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
