The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), has received 177 Nigerian returnees from Libya under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme facilitated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Federal Government.
The returnees arrived on Monday evening aboard an Air Buraq Airlines flight, registration number 5A-BAE, which landed at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, at approximately 7:35 p.m.
According to NEMA, the returnees comprised 151 adults, including 66 males and 85 females, 14 children made up of eight males and six females, and 12 infants consisting of five males and seven females.

Upon arrival, officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) carried out biometric registration and documentation to ensure accurate record-keeping and support the reintegration process.
The returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, potable water, medical screening, ambulance services for those requiring medical attention, luggage handling, logistics support, counselling, and other reception services aimed at ensuring a smooth and dignified reintegration into society.

The reception exercise was coordinated by NEMA alongside key stakeholders, including the NCFRMI, NIS, IOM, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Port Health Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other relevant agencies.
NEMA stated that the exercise forms part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the welfare and rights of Nigerians returning from difficult situations abroad while supporting their reintegration into their communities.
