The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has intensified its grassroots human rights awareness campaign with a sensitisation exercise at Kubwa Market in the Federal Capital Territory, aimed at educating Nigerians on their fundamental rights and available channels for seeking redress.
The outreach, organised by the Commission’s Human Rights Education and Promotion Department, formed part of the NHRC’s ongoing efforts to deepen public understanding of human rights and promote greater access to justice.
During the exercise, traders, customers and other market visitors received information on their fundamental rights, the Commission’s mandate and the procedures for reporting alleged human rights violations.
To ensure wider participation and effective communication, officials delivered key messages in local languages commonly spoken within the market, while educational flyers highlighting citizens’ rights and the Commission’s services were distributed to members of the public.
The campaign attracted significant interest, with many participants visiting the NHRC’s information stand to seek clarification on complaint mechanisms, available support services and the Commission’s role in protecting human rights.
The Commission said the Kubwa Market sensitisation exercise underscores its commitment to bringing human rights education closer to the people and ensuring that Nigerians are adequately informed about their rights and the legal remedies available when those rights are violated.
The NHRC reaffirmed that public enlightenment remains central to its mandate of promoting, protecting and enforcing human rights across the country.
