The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected illicit drug dealers and recovered substances valued at ₦6.2 million, alongside ₦598,400 in cash, during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating in the area.
The suspects were identified as Nzube Onyedikachukwu, 47, also known as “Onyeoma,” and Ugochukwu Azia, 20.
Police said a search of the hideout led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs estimated at ₦6.2 million. The operatives also recovered ₦598,400 in cash.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs, while the location was reportedly being used as a meeting point by suspected criminal elements after carrying out their activities.
According to the command, some suspects fled the scene after sighting the police operatives.
The two arrested suspects remain in police custody as investigators work to establish the source and distribution network of the suspected illicit drugs, identify other persons linked to the operation and determine the circumstances surrounding the recovered cash.
The operation followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for sustained intelligence-led operations and the dismantling of criminal hideouts across the country.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the command would sustain targeted raids, proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations to dismantle criminal hideouts and deny criminals safe havens across the state.
He also urged residents, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide the police with credible and timely information on suspicious persons, criminal activities and suspected criminal hideouts.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Awka.
