The Ebola patient in Nigeria has been medically evacuated to Switzerland for further treatment, accompanied by her spouse, who remains asymptomatic, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has announced.

In an update, Africa CDC said the patient was stable and showing clinical improvement at the time of her evacuation earlier today.

The agency commended Nigeria’s emergency responders and health teams for their swift response and commitment to protecting communities.

It also pledged continued support for the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and frontline health teams as response efforts continue.

According to Africa CDC, its support will include clinical guidance, infection prevention and control, decontamination of the affected health facility, as well as diplomatic and strategic advice.

The agency stressed that sustained vigilance remained essential to containing the outbreak and preventing further transmission.

It called for continued disease surveillance, strengthened infection prevention and control measures, and the prompt reporting of suspected Ebola cases.

Africa CDC urged members of the public to report suspected cases through the NCDC toll-free line, 6232, as health authorities continue efforts to protect public health.
