The United States Mission in Nigeria has joined celebrations marking the National Football League’s (NFL) efforts to introduce American football to new audiences, following a historic regular-season matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints in Paris.
Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy headlined the halftime show, bringing Afrobeats to the international sporting event and adding a Nigerian touch to the NFL’s global expansion drive.
To celebrate the occasion, the U.S. Mission Nigeria hosted a watch party at the American Center in Abuja, bringing together Nigerian sports partners to watch the game, celebrate American football and experience the excitement surrounding the event.
The gathering provided an opportunity for participants to engage with American sporting culture while highlighting the role of sports and entertainment in fostering international connections.
The NFL has continued to explore opportunities to reach audiences beyond the United States through international games and entertainment programmes featuring prominent global artistes.

Burna Boy’s appearance at the halftime show also underscored the growing international visibility of Nigerian music and the influence of Afrobeats on global entertainment.
The U.S. Mission Nigeria said the event demonstrated how American sports, music and entertainment could bring people together through competition and shared experiences.
From the football field to the concert stage, the Paris event showcased the intersection of sports and culture, highlighting opportunities for stronger people-to-people connections between the United States and Nigeria.
