In a proactive and decisive move aimed at bolstering the well-being of both serving and retired police officers, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has taken significant strides to review and potentially enhance the pension scheme for retired police personnel.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to addressing the welfare concerns of police officers since assuming office, the IGP convened a crucial meeting in December 2023 at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The meeting brought together retired and serving police officers along with pension experts to address pending issues related to the Police Pensions, with a focus on exploring avenues to improve the existing pension system.’
After a thorough examination of the pending bill in collaboration with legal and pension experts, the IGP advised a cautious approach, acknowledging potential challenges in the proposed pension scheme. Undeterred by these concerns, the IGP has remained resolute in advocating for the best interests of the Force and has established a dedicated team tasked with formulating a robust pension system that ensures retiring police officers receive optimal benefits for a secure post-service life.
This strategic initiative is designed to alleviate the hardships commonly faced by officers after retirement. The Inspector-General of Police reassures both serving and retired officers that the current administration places a high priority on enhancing the welfare of police officers, particularly in terms of retirement benefits.
