The Acting Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed his full commitment to the advancement of the Police Reform and Transformation Office (PORTO), a Presidential initiative aimed at facilitating comprehensive reform within the Nigeria Police Force. This assurance was conveyed during a courtesy visit by Mr. Tunji Lardner, the coordinator of PORTO, and other officials to the IGP’s office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on July 26, 2023.
During the meeting, the IGP reiterated that PORTO is a crucial catalyst for driving change and transformation within the NPF. The initiative encompasses a range of measures, including comprehensive training, improved logistics support, and modernization of policing practices. With the IGP’s visionary leadership, the Nigeria Police Force recognizes the necessity for progressive reforms to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and public trust.
At the core of PORTO’s mission is to usher in a new era of professionalism, accountability, and service excellence within the Police Force. By providing targeted training, officers will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively address contemporary challenges and ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
Mr. Lardner, in response, assured the IGP that PORTO is dedicated to overhauling logistics support systems, providing officers with the necessary tools and resources to carry out their duties effectively. He also highlighted the organization’s efforts so far in supporting the Police and reaffirmed their commitment to fulfilling PORTO’s mandate for transforming and repositioning the police.
The Inspector-General of Police called upon all stakeholders, including the public, civil society organizations, and the media, to support and engage with the PORTO initiative. The Nigeria Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering exceptional service, upholding the rule of law, and fostering a culture of accountability within the police force. With this collaborative approach, PORTO aims to create a more efficient, reliable, and trustworthy police force that serves the nation effectively.
