In response to the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima has embarked on a diplomatic mission to Davos, Switzerland, to attend the 2024 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The event, set to convene political and business leaders from across the globe, aims to address critical global socio-economic and development issues.
Apart from participating in the plenary sessions, Vice President Shettima has a focused agenda, chiefly revolving around the launch of the Private Sector Action Plan for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA). He is set to co-chair a special session dedicated to this initiative.
In addition to his responsibilities regarding AfCTA, Sen. Shettima is scheduled to engage in high-level discussions with key figures such as Makhtar Diop, the Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), and Pham Minh Chinh, the Prime Minister of Vietnam.
The Vice President’s involvement extends to chairing a roundtable dialogue addressing Nigeria’s economic trajectory, underscoring his commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration on matters of national significance. Furthermore, he is slated to attend a dedicated session focused on building trust in the global energy transition program.
Sen. Shettima is expected to participate in the week-long event, after which he will return to Nigeria, having contributed to discussions and initiatives aimed at shaping global economic policies and fostering international cooperation.
