A coordinated search and rescue operation is underway following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction in Jikwoyi District, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:17 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026, prompting an immediate response from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office.
According to officials, NEMA swiftly activated a multi-agency emergency response involving the FCT Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, alongside the construction firm handling the project.

The Head of NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office, Zakari Abubakar, led the response team, deploying emergency assets from the Emergency Response Ambulance Bay in Asokoro to the scene.
Rescue teams have so far pulled five victims from the rubble. The injured were evacuated to Sister Nativity Hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary reports from workers at the site indicate that at least one individual may still be trapped beneath the debris. Emergency responders have consequently deployed excavators and other heavy-duty equipment to intensify ongoing rescue efforts.
Authorities say operations are continuing, with further updates expected as the situation develops.
