AGF seeks EFCC support to curb revenue leakages

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to support efforts aimed at blocking revenue leakages across the country to ensure adequate funding for the 2025 national budget.

Ogunjimi made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, at the Commission’s corporate headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration between the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the EFCC, Ogunjimi noted that effective partnership is critical to tracking fraudulent transactions and curbing financial misconduct in government agencies.

“Currently, the country is witnessing significant revenue shortages and leakages. We believe that for us to perform our mandate effectively—especially to fund the budget and meet obligations like salary payments—we need your collaboration and support,” he stated.

In response, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede assured the AGF of the Commission’s readiness to partner with the OAGF in tackling financial leakages in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). He emphasized the shared responsibility of both institutions in fostering financial transparency and accountability.

“We are committed to ensuring a saner and sound financial system in Nigeria. Through collaboration, we can block leakages, manage our resources effectively, and fund key national projects,” Olukoyede said.

The meeting underscored a joint resolve to strengthen fiscal discipline and accountability in the management of public funds.
