The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to strengthening global defence partnerships during a week-long official visit to China from August 24–30.
The visit featured high-level meetings with aviation and defence companies in Beijing, Chengdu, and Haerbin, underscoring NAF’s focus on improving operational readiness through international collaboration.
At the China National Aero-Technology Import and Export Corporation (CATIC), Air Marshal Abubakar secured renewed agreements on spare parts supply, after-sales support, and expanded training opportunities for Nigerian personnel. He described the agreements as a “major boost” to fleet serviceability and mission readiness.
The delegation also inspected advanced aerospace facilities, including Haerbin Aircraft Company, where they examined the Z-20 utility helicopter, and Chengdu Aircraft Company, where officials reviewed the JF-17B and Block III variants, tested simulators, and assessed potential areas for technology transfer.
In Chengdu, the CAS also visited the AVIC Unmanned Aerial Systems Company, stressing the importance of drones in modern warfare and their role in strengthening Nigeria’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities for counterterrorism and internal security operations.
Reflecting on the visit, Air Marshal Abubakar said the engagements align with his vision of building “an agile and resilient Air Force” able to meet evolving threats. He added that deepening partnerships with trusted international players will enhance fleet availability, maintenance support, and long-term self-reliance.
The week-long tour consolidated NAF’s defence diplomacy in Asia and reaffirmed Nigeria’s position as a reliable partner in global security cooperation.
