Amnesty International has strongly condemned the killing of 63 people by Boko Haram insurgents in Dara-Jamal, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
The human rights body described the assault as “vicious and unlawful,” stressing that it reflects the insurgents’ contempt for human life. Residents, many of whom had only recently returned after previous displacements, were forced to flee again—some on foot with no clear destination.
The town, resettled less than six months ago under assurances of restored security, has faced repeated attacks. During such raids, insurgents have reportedly killed fleeing civilians, looted livestock, money, and other valuables, and abducted women and girls.
Amnesty called on Boko Haram to immediately end its campaign of killings and abductions, and urged Nigerian authorities to strengthen civilian protection while ensuring justice and reparations for victims’ families.
