Amnesty International holds anti–mob violence walk in Calabar

Amnesty International Nigeria on Friday, 8 August 2025, held a public walk in Calabar as part of its nationwide campaign to end mob violence. The event brought together university students, youth organizations, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), civil society groups, and religious bodies.

Despite heavy rainfall, participants marched from Millennium Park, distributing fliers and engaging pedestrians, commuters, and residents on the dangers of jungle justice and its deadly consequences across Nigeria.

The campaign follows Amnesty International’s October 2024 report, “Instantly Killed: How Law Enforcement Failures Exacerbate Wave of Mob Violence in Nigeria,” which linked the surge in mob violence over the past decade to authorities’ failure to protect lives, prompting communities to resort to extrajudicial measures.

Similar walks have been held in Benin City, Edo State, and Lagos, with the campaign set to continue across other states in Nigeria.
