Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) has dismissed reports alleging that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrike in Zamfara State targeted a civilian wedding and caused civilian casualties. The military described the claims as false, unfounded, and aimed at undermining the professionalism and operational successes of its troops.
According to OPFY, the precision, intelligence-led strike on 4 August 2025 targeted a gathering of heavily armed terrorists — including the notorious kingpin Ado Aliero — at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area. The event, which doubled as a wedding celebration for one of Aliero’s key fighters, served as a cover for the convergence of terrorists from Katsina and Zamfara States who were allegedly plotting coordinated attacks on nearby communities.
Surveillance assets reportedly confirmed the presence of armed fighters and support elements before precision-guided munitions were deployed, neutralizing the targets and injuring others.
Following the strike, troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 intercepted fleeing insurgents but came under ambush at Asola Hills. The soldiers repelled the attack, neutralizing more terrorists and wounding four collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village. Two soldiers were injured and are receiving treatment in stable condition.
The military said no fewer than 30 terrorists were neutralized during the combined operations, with no civilian casualties reported. Residents of Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding areas have expressed relief at the outcome.
OPFY reiterated its commitment to professionalism, intelligence-led operations, and strict adherence to the rules of engagement, urging Nigerians to disregard unverified claims intended to discredit the nation’s security efforts.
