Amnesty International, Lilu community leaders unite on Southeast security

Amnesty International Nigeria has hosted the traditional ruler of Lilu, Igwe Ikenga na Lilu, HRH (Dr.) G.C. Onyediri, Esq., and his entourage on a courtesy visit to its office. The delegation included High Chief Chukwudi Okonkwo (Ichie Ochondo), Chairman of the Lilu Agunechamba Security, and Dr. Osita Dominic Okoli (Akaeze), Palace Secretary.

Discussions during the visit focused on the impact of the prolonged security crisis in the South-East on Lilu community, Anambra State, and explored ways to strengthen resilience and support rebuilding efforts.

Lilu was among the communities spotlighted in Amnesty International’s recent report documenting how violence has undermined human rights in the South-East. The organisation commended the community’s traditional leadership for its commitment to justice and accountability.

The South-East has faced recurring insecurity since the government’s clampdown on pro-Biafra protests in 2015, leading to cycles of violence, assassinations, and frequent attacks on highways and security installations.
