In a distinguished ceremony held today, Dr. Solomon Arase, CFR, retired Inspector General of Police and current Chairman of the Police Service Commission, was honored with the Award of Excellence by the esteemed Alumni of the University of Ibadan. This accolade is a testament to his outstanding contributions and accomplishments as a distinguished alumnus of the university.
According to Head, Press and Public Relations Ikechukwu Ani, the award was formally presented to Dr. Arase in his office on Monday, November 27th, 2023, by the President of the University’s Alumni, Prof. Gabriel Nyityo. Accompanying Prof. Nyityo were esteemed individuals, Prof. Elsie Adewoye, and Mr. Hyacinth Kyaagba, both Past Presidents of the Association.

The decision to present the award at the PSC Chairman’s office was made due to his pressing official commitments that prevented his attendance at the awards ceremony held last week in Lagos.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Arase conveyed his humility in receiving such a distinguished recognition, emphasizing the significance of the award to him. He reflected on his academic foundation, stating that “training in Strategic Studies gave him the fertile mind and critical skills that prepared and defined his career paths.”

During the ceremony, Dr. Arase took the opportunity to voice a fervent prayer for the stability of university education in Nigeria. He urged the government to provide the necessary support to ensure a stable academic calendar for the nation’s universities, allowing parents to plan more effectively for their children or wards’ educational journey.
In a statement, Prof. Nyityo, the President of the Alumni, highlighted that the award bestowed upon Dr. Arase was a perpetual appreciation for “positively projecting the image of our University.” This acknowledgment underscores Dr. Arase’s significant impact on the reputation of the University of Ibadan.
As a gesture of gratitude, Dr. Arase presented the delegation with a book titled “Readings on Election Security Management,” a testament to his ongoing commitment to scholarly contributions.
