The 401 Special Forces Brigade of the Nigerian Army has disowned a fraudulent social media post falsely attributed to its Commander, Brigadier General Kolawole Bukoye, warning the public against misinformation being circulated online.
In a disclaimer issued on Friday Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 401 Special Forces Brigade Captain Tayo Oluwafemi said the Brigade said its attention had been drawn to the activities of an individual identified as John Ubi Augustine, who allegedly used the Commander’s photograph on Facebook to circulate a false statement titled, “Our Soldiers Deserve Better.”
The Brigade described the publication as a deliberate fabrication designed to mislead members of the public and damage the reputation of the senior military officer.
It stressed that Brigadier General Bukoye neither authored nor granted any interview relating to the statement being circulated on social media.
The Brigade urged the public to disregard the fraudulent publication and remain vigilant against attempts by impostors to exploit the identities of military personnel for deceptive purposes.
It also called on citizens to report any suspicious online activities or cases of impersonation to the appropriate security authorities for prompt investigation and necessary action.
