Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have arrested an individual posing as an Army recruitment official in Taraba State. The suspect, apprehended on June 22, 2024, was attempting to scam aspiring military candidates by promising guaranteed entry into the Nigerian Army in exchange for money.
The arrest occurred following a visit by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, to the recruitment center at 114 Battalion Jimilari. General Uwa inspected the ongoing recruitment process to ensure its transparency and fairness.
Addressing the candidates, Brigadier General Uwa emphasized the Army’s commitment to a fair and transparent recruitment process. “We are committed to maintaining a level playing field for all candidates. Our recruitment will be based solely on merit, and we will not tolerate any fraudulent activities,” he declared. He stressed that the recruitment process is voluntary and free, warning candidates against giving money to anyone offering assistance.
General Uwa praised the vigilance of the troops in thwarting the scam, underscoring the importance of maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process. He assured that the arrested suspect would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
The Brigade urges all candidates and the public to report any suspicious activities related to the recruitment exercise to the authorities. This vigilance will help ensure that only the most qualified candidates are inducted into the Nigerian Army.
