The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation into a viral video alleging that its personnel assaulted a police detective in Mgbom N’Achara Community, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State during a traditional leadership election on May 1, 2025.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the Army expressed serious concern over the incident and emphasized its commitment to transparency and professionalism.
According to the statement, the Chief of Army Staff has ordered a thorough and impartial investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deployment and conduct of the personnel allegedly involved.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and accountability in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement read.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Army has appealed for calm, assuring the public that anyone found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with military regulations.
The Army reaffirmed its dedication to supporting civil authorities and safeguarding national peace and stability, calling on citizens to continue cooperating with security agencies.
“The trust and support of Nigerians remain critical to our success. We urge the public to remain calm and have confidence in our internal mechanisms to address such matters appropriately,” the statement added.
