In his address, AWCN Commandant Major General Ishaya Maina praised the officers for their professionalism and commitment, which earned them this career milestone. Highlighting the responsibilities tied to their new rank, he quoted U.S. General Norman Schwarzkopf: “Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without the strategy.”
General Maina also cited General Bruce C. Clarke, reminding the officers that rank is a tool for service, not self-indulgence. He urged the generals to embrace their promotion as a call to greater accountability and service.
The Commandant expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for supporting AWCN and approving the promotions.
Brigadier General JN Garba, AWCN’s Director of Administration and Logistics, noted the rigorous process that led to the elevation of the six officers, part of the 73 colonels recently promoted by the Nigerian Army.
Distinguished guests at the event included Senator Saliu Mustapha of Kwara State, Major General HT Wesley, and Major General DG Alu.
