Baga Community honours Zulum with farm produce for resettlement efforts

Residents of Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State, have presented gifts of onion, watermelon, and smoked fish to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in appreciation of his efforts to resettle them back to their town.

The community, which returned to Baga in 2020 after years in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, said the resettlement has restored their dignity and financial independence.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Abba-Aji Alhaji Aji commended Zulum’s “bold initiative” to reopen Baga, noting that the return allowed them to resume farming, fishing, and other means of livelihood.

“These farm produce are direct from our farms. We now earn enough to eat and sell, unlike in IDP camps where we survived on handouts,” he said.

Alongside the gifts, the community also presented the governor with a public service award in recognition of developmental projects in Baga and across Borno State.

Governor Zulum thanked the people of Baga for their resilience, hard work, and commitment to rebuilding their community.
