One dead, four rescued as three-storey building collapses in Yaba

A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night, September 12, 2025, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State, leaving several persons trapped.

The incident occurred around 8:30 pm. So far, emergency responders have rescued four adult males alive, who are now receiving treatment in hospital. However, one male body has also been recovered from the rubble.

Eyewitnesses gave conflicting figures of those trapped, with estimates ranging between five and six. Rescue officials say there is speculation that two more persons remain under the debris.

Teams from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Police, FRSC, NSCDC and other responders are on site, continuing search and rescue operations.

The area has been cordoned off to ensure safety, while rescue efforts continue late into the night. Officials have assured that no effort will be spared to save lives.
