Banditry: Danko Wasagu LGA chairman announces return of 13 displaced villages

In a noteworthy development, over 13 villages that had been displaced due to persistent banditry attacks in the Southern part of Kebbi State have successfully returned to their homes, signaling a return to relative peace in the region. This positive shift was confirmed by Alhaji Ahmed Idris, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kebbi State, in a statement released to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

The disclosure was further substantiated by Hon. Aliyu Hussaini-Bena, the Council Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government Area (LGA), who expressed his satisfaction with the return of normalcy. According to Hussaini-Bena, all villagers forced out of their homes in the last three years have now been resettled, allowing them to resume their regular activities.

The Chairman attributed this success to the unwavering support provided by the present administration, led by Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, to the security personnel involved. He emphasized the governor’s commitment to both the overall development of the state and the safeguarding of the lives and property of its citizens.

Commending the diligent efforts of security agencies, Hussaini-Bena expressed joy over the restored freedom of the people in the region. He particularly applauded the tireless efforts of security personnel in patrolling the area day and night, effectively dislodging the bandits from their camps.

Hussaini-Bena highlighted Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris’s contributions to the Nigerian Army, including the provision of an APC Van and other essential equipment to enhance their capacity in combating the banditry menace. This strategic support aimed at restoring peace and stability has yielded positive results, not only in Kebbi State but also in neighboring states such as Niger and Zamfara.

The Chairman further revealed that the largest market in the state, Bena Market, has been reopened, contributing to the economic revival of the region. He noted that foreigners from other countries are now engaging in commercial activities, reflecting the regained confidence in the security and stability of the area.

Recalling the challenges faced by Danko Wasagu, Sakaba, and Fakai Local Government Areas in Zuru Emirate, Hussaini-Bena credited the leadership of Kauran Gwandu for the improved security situation. He emphasized that people are now returning to their homes and resuming their normal lives, thanks to the supportive measures taken by Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris.

Danko Wasagu, being a major local government sharing borders with Zamfara and Niger States, had borne a large burden of displaced residents. The Chairman listed the 13 villages that have successfully returned, including Sawade, Bakin Gulunbi, Malekachi, Sakawa, Sabongida, Kauran mai Zanma, Luga, Angela Kibiya, Angela Dado, Tsirinda, Kasama, and Ma’ako.

Notably, Malekachi village, situated on the border between Kebbi and Niger States, was identified as a flashpoint, prompting the establishment of an army base to address security concerns in the area. The return of these villages signifies a significant step towards the restoration of peace and normalcy in Southern Kebbi State.
