The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, on Sunday paid a sympathy visit to the Singer Market in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, following a devastating fire outbreak that destroyed goods and property estimated at over N5 billion.
Senator Barau was received at the market by its Chairman, Alhaji Junaidu Zakari, alongside a large number of affected traders. During the visit, he announced a donation of N100 million to support victims and cushion the impact of the losses.
Addressing the traders, the Deputy Senate President expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a tragedy not only for the victims but for the entire state and the nation.

Senator Barau, who also serves as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, pledged to facilitate the provision of a modern fire control facility in the market to help prevent future occurrences.
Earlier, the market chairman disclosed that Singer Market had experienced two major fire incidents in recent times, resulting in cumulative losses exceeding N5 billion. He commended the senator for the visit and his continued support to traders in the state.
The Deputy Senate President was accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata; the Kano State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, Malam Salisu Sagir Takai; members of the Kano State House of Assembly; special advisers; and other aides.
