Education minister backs stronger Federal–State synergy on quality schooling

The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening collaboration with state governments to ensure the effective implementation of education policies and improved learning outcomes nationwide.

Dr. Alausa made the pledge while commending the Committee of States’ Commissioners of Education in Nigeria (COSCEN) for convening its maiden peer-learning webinar focused on enhancing federal–state coordination in tackling the out-of-school children challenge.

Describing the initiative as timely, the Minister said it aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and reinforces the Ministry’s mandate to guarantee access to quality education for every Nigerian child.

He stressed that addressing the out-of-school children crisis requires coordinated reforms, shared accountability, and evidence-based interventions across all tiers of government. According to him, harmonised implementation frameworks, data-driven planning, and sustained knowledge exchange are critical to achieving measurable progress.

Dr. Alausa also highlighted the complementary role of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education in supporting targeted programmes aimed at reintegrating vulnerable children into the formal education system.

The webinar is expected to feature presentations from Gombe State and the National Commission, offering practical insights and national context to strengthen state-level interventions.

The Federal Government reiterated its resolve to work collaboratively with sub-national authorities to deliver inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education for all Nigerian children.
