The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, on Sunday visited military and security formations in Gwarzo, Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano North Senatorial District, following recent bandits’ incursions into parts of the area.
The visit came after the deployment of troops comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army, Police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ordered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to stem cross-border attacks by armed bandits from neighbouring states.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau arrived in Kano at about 7:00 a.m. and proceeded directly to Lakwaya Ward in Gwarzo LGA, where he engaged security operatives at their operational camp.
Accompanied by the Garrison Commander of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Kano, Lieutenant Colonel I. Ekoh, and other senior security officers, the Deputy Senate President inspected a parade by troops led by the Joint Task Force Commander in Gwarzo, Lieutenant Abdullahi Sadiq.
Addressing the operatives, Senator Barau commended them for their commitment and sacrifice in protecting lives and property, while also thanking President Tinubu for the swift approval of the security deployment.
He noted that the President personally directed the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, the Inspector-General of Police and other security chiefs, including the Director-General of the Department of State Services, to ensure the prompt deployment of forces to the affected areas.
“Since your arrival, you have worked tirelessly to restore peace and tranquillity. I am here, on behalf of the people of Kano North and Kano State, to thank you for putting your lives on the line to safeguard our communities,” Senator Barau said.
He urged the troops to sustain the momentum of operations and decisively confront the criminal elements terrorising the area. “Please go after those who do not want peace in our land. Chase them wherever they are and flush them out,” he added.
The Deputy Senate President also called on local communities to continue to provide maximum cooperation and intelligence support to security agencies, stressing that collective effort was critical to ending banditry.
From Gwarzo, Senator Barau visited troops’ camps in Tsaure and Faruruwa wards of Shanono LGA, as well as Tsanyawa LGA, where he similarly addressed and encouraged the operatives.

He later met with community leaders and residents in Faruruwa Ward, Shanono LGA, who expressed appreciation for the deployment of security personnel. An elder statesman, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri, praised the intervention, citing improved security, ongoing road projects and key appointments of indigenes as positive developments.
Former House of Representatives member, Rt. Hon. Farouk Lawan, said the visit was aimed at motivating security personnel and commended Senator Barau for his consistent engagement on security challenges in the area.
Responding, Senator Barau said the visit was both to assess the security situation firsthand and to engage community leaders following the recent attacks. He announced that a dam project requested by the community would be constructed as soon as possible.
Members of the Deputy Senate President’s entourage included the APC Secretary in Kano State, Hon. Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, Rt. Hon. Farouk Lawan, Hon. Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil, and several other political and community leaders.
The visit underscores renewed federal and legislative resolve to restore peace and security to vulnerable communities in Kano North.
