Brigadier General AS Aliyu makes history with daring airborne jump

Brigadier General AS Aliyu, of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division has made history with a bold airborne jump at the Jaji Drop Zone, Jaji Military Cantonment, alongside cadets from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).

Demonstrating exceptional leadership and courage, Brigadier General Aliyu jumped from a Nigerian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft at over 800 feet, becoming the first jumper of the day. His action underscored the principle that true leaders lead by example, not from a distance.

Aliyu credited his bold decision to the inspiration of former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General KTJ Minimah, who undertook a similar feat as a Brigadier General while serving as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) in Jaji.

The jump highlighted the elite training standards upheld at NASI, where airborne training prepares officers and soldiers for high-risk operations such as airborne assaults, special missions, and rapid deployments. The rigorous program includes tactical drills, night jumps, and combat-equipment jumps, equipping troops with critical skills for counterterrorism and national security operations.

By joining NDA cadets in the jump, Brigadier General Aliyu reinforced the Nigerian Army’s commitment to grooming future military leaders. His fearless act serves as a powerful reminder that leadership requires courage and shared experience in the face of challenges.
