The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, conducted a 2-day operational visit to Katsina State, beginning on September 15, 2024, to assess the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) operational preparedness.
In a statement Deputy Director, Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force Group Captain Kabiru Ali said the tour focused on the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI (OPHD) and the 213 Forward Operating Base (FOB), as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry and improve security in the North-West.
Air Marshal Abubakar met with the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, where he commended the state’s security measures, particularly the establishment of the Katsina Community Watch Corps and enhanced intelligence-sharing initiatives. These steps, he noted, have significantly contributed to the relative peace observed during the recent planting season.

The CAS emphasized NAF’s commitment to continued airstrikes and security operations, particularly to protect farmers during the upcoming harvest. He also revealed plans to deploy a Quick Response Wing to boost military presence in vulnerable areas, underscoring the need for a holistic strategy combining both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to secure lasting peace.
Governor Radda expressed appreciation for the NAF’s efforts, acknowledging the impact of recent air operations in curbing banditry. He pledged continued collaboration with the military to protect lives and enhance agricultural productivity in the state.

The visit also included operational briefings at OPHD and 213 FOB, where the CAS interacted with officers and reviewed strategies to strengthen security in Katsina. Additionally, Air Marshal Abubakar paid a condolence visit to the Yar’adua family, offering prayers for the late Hajiya Nana Yar’adua, mother of former President Umaru Musa Yar’adua.
