The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a public warning to alert Nigerians about the activities of fraudsters falsely claiming to possess contract award letters or project funding approvals linked to the Bank. These claims often involve construction projects and purported special financial interventions allegedly authorized by the apex bank.
In a statement signed by Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, the CBN clarified that such assertions are entirely false and urged the public to exercise caution. “These individuals are solely motivated by the intent to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians. Any claims of contract awards or project funding on behalf of the CBN should be disregarded,” she stated.
The Bank further highlighted that, in line with the strategic focus of its current management, it has discontinued direct development interventions and funding for special projects. Mrs. Ali reiterated that the CBN has not issued any public notices or authorized announcements regarding such interventions on social media platforms or other news outlets.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria remains steadfast in its mandate to ensure monetary and price stability, alongside maintaining a sound and efficient financial system in Nigeria,” the statement continued.
Mrs. Ali encouraged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious claims or activities to law enforcement agencies. “These fraudulent schemes are designed to exploit innocent citizens, and we urge everyone to stay informed and cautious. Please be guided accordingly,” she concluded.
